MURDER in Maricopa: "Much Ado About Murder...A Midsummer's Nightmare" -- Gala Opening on June 19th
Marilyn Netoskie

The Plot

“Did you do it? Did you go into the den of his home on the golf course at The Duke, early in the morning and bludgeon Mr. Diedrich to death?” You chose a good time to perform the dastardly deed, because it was just before a costume party he was hosting at his home to honor William Shakespeare, his favorite author. Once each year, "Uncle Carlton" asked everyone to dress up in their favorite Shakespearean costume, and arrive early to start the festivities. Then he would escort everyone in his limo to continue the party at the Renaissance Faire.

If you did murder Mr. Diedrich, you probably think you've achieved the perfect crime. It's been a year and the murder hasn't been solved. Do you know his ghost wanders all over The Duke, haunting the course from sunup to sundown? Scratch golfers are making bogeys or worse on almost every hole. No one is shooting par but everyone is quick to blame the ghost for their bad game.

Now, a year later, the family of Carlton I. Diedrich has gathered on the first anniversary of his death. They are a strange group, dressed in their costumes of course, ready to party and celebrate Carlton's death, not honor William Shakespeare.

The Cast

There's Blanche Diedrich, Carlton’s wife, played by May McCarthey, who is in love with spending Carlton's money. Jolene Diedrich, played by Savanna Zubel. is Carlton and Blanche's adopted daughter, hiding a big secret from Mommy and Daddy Dearest. David Vargas portrays Steven MacDonald. He is a handyman, driver, and butler. Did the butler do it? Leslie and Wesley Diedrich are identical twin brothers and Carlton's nephews. They are polar opposites. Leslie, played by Dr. John Donohue, is cool and calculating. Wesley, played by Chewy Vega is neurotic, nervous, and paranoid. Kimberly Trent, played by Maricopa Unified School Governing Board member Carrie Vargas, is Carlton's secretary and mistress. She has a big secret that is longing to get out. Lillian DeMonde, played by Lee Anne Clark, is Carlton's sister, Aunt Lil. She left home at a young age to be a Broadway star, and is grandiose and showy, every bit the Grand Dame. Last, there is Henry Sharpe. Henry is Carlton's lawyer, childhood friend, and Las Vegas gambler. But why did Carlton summon him to the house the day he was murdered? Stephen Bender and Henry Ibarra alternate shows playing Henry Sharpe.

Did you murder Uncle Carlton?

Maybe they will find out it was you or someone else that was the murderer, and solve this perfect crime. There has been so “Much Ado About Murder” that it has been "A Midsummer's Nightmare." Just because the man is dead, doesn't mean the party can't go on. If you are innocent, you could help the family try to find the murderer and solve the crime. If you are guilty, you can confuse them even more, if that's possible.

Come to the party on June 19th at The Duke Silver Spur Grill. The VIP Gala opening includes hors d'oeuvres, champagne, dinner, dessert, -- and murder.

Meet the actors, ask questions about the murder, wear a Shakespearean costume if you wish, and be part of the play. Who knows, this might be the beginning of an acting career for you. There will be wonderful door prizes and music for dancing afterward. It's only $50 per person, all inclusive, including tax and tip, for an evening you will remember for a long time. If you can't make it on June 19th, the show will be repeated on the last Saturday of every month. You can call (480) 844-1100 (The Duke Silver Spur Grill) for reservations.
