MUSD: School Lunch information for parents
Received article
Monday, July 26, 2010
Maricopa Unified School District (MUSD) announced its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals for children served under the National School Lunch Program. The price for breakfast is 50 cents for full-pay students and 10 cents for reduced-price students. Lunch prices are $1.50 for K-5th grade students and $2.00 for secondary students. Reduced price students will pay 40 cents.
A new application must be completed each school year and the application must be filled out completely and accurately or it will be returned.
Household size and income criteria will be used to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price benefits. Children who are members of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Cash Assistance (CA) units, or Food Distribution Program on the Indian Reservation (FDPIR) households are automatically eligible for free meals.
Application forms are being distributed to all households with a letter informing households of the availability of free and reduced-price meals for their children. Applications are also available at the cafeteria in each school. To apply for free or reduced-price meals, households must fill out the application and return it to the school.
Under the provisions of the free and reduced-price policy, Suzette Moe (

) is the determining official and will review applications and determine eligibility. Parents or guardians dissatisfied with the ruling of the official may wish to discuss the decision with the determining official on an informal basis. Parents wishing to make a formal appeal for a hearing on the decision may make a request either orally or in writing to Aron Rausch, District Office, (520) 568-5100.
